Formal and Informal Dog Shows Dog shows can be categorized as either formal or informal. Formal shows contribute to a dog's championship title by awarding points based on their performance. These shows can either be all-breed or group shows, encompassing various breeds, or they can be specialty shows, focusing solely on one specific breed.

On the other hand, informal shows, known as Match shows, do not count towards a dog's championship. They are organized primarily for recreational purposes and to provide learning experiences for both the dogs and the exhibitors. Match shows can include all-breed, group, or specialty categories, depending on the event.
